Review of any car

The Fiat 500 is one of the most stylish cars on the road today. It exudes a Parisian Chic, with the styling finesse of a kitsch continental city classic. Both the Mini and the Fiat 500 have been a roaring success since their rebirth but there is something about the 500 that gives it an added elegance.

The car has a bubble like shape with rounded features aplenty. Where in some cars too many curves can look non-descript, it really works with the 500. Some cars today may be over styled but the 500 harks back to an era of simpler designs. It follows a clean line with no knobbly bumpers or overbearing headlights. Whereas some city cars look cute, the 500 looks fashionable.

The 500 is the perfect city car and starting at £9,900 it represents good value. The car is built on the same production line as the highly acclaimed Panda but where the Panda is finished with practicality in mind the 500 is more of a fashion accessory with facades and gizmos giving a retro feel.

Fiat hasn’t always had the best reputation for quality of finish but the 500 could be set to change that perception. The finish is robust and high quality with furnishings appearing nicely crafted.

There are a range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from. The 1.4 Abarth 16V Turbo is the top of the range model but there are plenty of everyday 1000cc and 1.2 models to choose from.

The success of the Fiat 500 comes at a time when the Mini and the Beetle have also made successful comebacks. The appetite for kitsch small cars seems insatiable and the Fiat 500 could be the pick of the bunch. For fashionable types it seems to be the car of choice and on a purely practical level it could be pound for pound the best in class.
