Chevrolet Aveo 1.3 VCDi Ecodiesel review

The Chevrolet Aveo 1.3 VCDi Ecodiesel is the diesel version of the new Supermini. The car is mid-priced and is in the same class as Ford Fiesta but with substantially more internal space and with a particularly good fuel economy.

The engine is 1.3 litres and delivers a reasonably 94 bhp, which is hardly boy racer stuff but it is perfectly adequate of every day motoring in town and for motorway cruising. Once the revs reach 1750 rpm you find that there is plenty of torque right through the rest of the rev range but at very low revs the car feels quite sluggish which is not surprising given that it is optimised for economy rather than for a fast get-away from the lights.

For an eco-diesel the engine is both smooth and quiet; there is also a noticeable lack of vibration during acceleration. The new aerodynamic shape also serves to reduce wind noise to quite surprisingly low levels.

The ride is reasonably comfortable even over fairly bumpy surfaces. The car is very manoeuvrable in tight situations thanks to the quite light steering, though you might find it a little too light at higher speeds. Parking is very easy.

At speed the handling is a little disappointing and there is noticeable body roll in tight corners.

Where the Aveo scores over the competition is internal space. There is ample headroom even for exceptionally tall occupants and there is plenty of legroom even for rear seat passengers. Boot space is fairly typical of a car in this class.

The driving position is quite high which means that there is excellent visibility and all the controls and instruments are easily accessible and visible.

Chevrolet has priced the Aveo 1.3 VCDi Ecodiesel very competitively and is significantly cheaper than the Fiesta. There is a good selection of equipment including air-con, alloys, remote locking and so forth.

Very importantly the Ecodiesel has low running costs. It returns an average fuel consumption of 78.5 mpg and CO2 emissions are 95 g/km which means that there is zero road tax.

If you are looking for a new or nearly-new Chevrolet Aveo 1.3 VCDi Ecodiesel then why not let motors.co.uk find one close to where you are located?
